ENGINEERING DEPTH

Engineering capability layers

Distribution, cellular edge, field integration and operations — grouped by topic with links into the relevant hardware families.

Industrial Ethernet distribution.

Switching is often the core of industrial IP networks — distinct from cellular routing and gateway functions.

CapabilityImplementation note
Unmanaged

Simple expansion of industrial networks (TSW0/TSW1/TSW2 unmanaged — family-dependent).

Managed

VLAN, diagnostics and segmentation via TswOS on managed families.

PoE / PoE+

Data and power for cameras, APs and edge devices — supported models only.

Fibre uplink

SFP ports for backbone and distance — where specified in datasheets.

Industrial protocols

PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, MRP on supported managed switches — not portfolio-wide.

Remote management

RMS / TswOS integration on compatible switches.

Protocol and interface support varies by device and configuration.

Cellular edge and resilience.

Device class first — family second. Model codes support assessment, not navigation.

  1. Industrial routing (Ethernet)

Edge routing and fixed-line WAN — compact RUT series through high-performance RUTX/RUTC.

  2. LTE / 4G

Cellular WAN, backup and remote sites on documented LTE families.

  3. Resilience

Dual SIM, eSIM, VPN and WAN failover — datasheet-dependent only.

  4. 5G / 5G RedCap

Higher bandwidth or efficient 5G variants on selected series — not portfolio-wide.

  5. Outdoor / mobile

Transport, construction sites and outdoor enclosures (e.g. OTD, RUTC) — device-specific.

Example families: RUT1/2/3/9, RUTM, RUTX, RedCap, 5G, RUTC50, OTD — verified per project.

Legacy connectivity and IIoT data paths.

Gateways bridge existing field equipment with modern IP/cellular infrastructure.

  • Ethernet, RS232, RS485, M-Bus — per TRB/NTP device
  • Telemetry, smart metering, utilities and machinery
  • MQTT, Modbus, OPC UA, BACnet, DNP3, DLMS — where documented
  • Configurable I/O and protocol translation — device-dependent

Representative families: TRB1, TRB2, NTP001, TRB501.

Management layer (RMS).

RMS is part of the Teltonika Networks ecosystem — not a GermanSTS product.

RMS, RutOS and TswOS are Teltonika Networks software/management offerings. GermanSTS supports project-specific selection of compatible devices and sourcing coordination.

  • Remote access concepts documented by the manufacturer (incl. VPN options)
  • Fleet/device management for compatible Teltonika networking hardware
  • Alerts, firmware updates, backups, performance analysis
  • API integration into supervisory systems
  • RMS Connect / VPN access to connected third-party devices where supported

PHYSICAL LAYER

From cabling to the network edge.

Network hardware still depends on correct cabling — GermanSTS can align networking components with industrial cable requirements in the same project.

Physical layer

  • Industrial Ethernet and data cables
  • Fibre uplinks and patching concepts
  • Control and connection cables for adjacent plant areas
  • Project-specific lengths, shielding and approvals

Network edge

  • Router & cellular edge
  • Gateway & protocol bridge
  • Switch & Industrial Ethernet
  • Access point & Wi-Fi
  • Field connectivity

Technical FAQ

Direct answers on selection, protocols and scope — without marketing promises.

Which industrial networking devices can GermanSTS support?

GermanSTS supports technical assessment and project sourcing of industrial routers, gateways, switches, modems and access points — primarily from the Teltonika Networks portfolio documented in manufacturer literature. This is selection and sourcing support, not in-house manufacturing.

Industrial router vs gateway — how do requirements differ?

Routers prioritise IP routing, WAN connectivity (Ethernet/cellular) and resilience. Gateways focus on field protocols and interfaces (e.g. RS485, M-Bus) to connect existing equipment. The right category depends on interfaces, protocols and topology.

Can you support 4G, 5G and 5G RedCap projects?

Matching cellular generations are documented on selected router/modem families (including LTE, 5G and RedCap series). Suitability and availability are verified per project.

Are managed industrial Ethernet switches available?

Yes — managed TSW2, SWM and related families provide VLAN, diagnostics and — on supported models — industrial protocols. Not every model supports every feature.

Can RS232/RS485 equipment be connected to modern networks?

Gateway families (TRB, etc.) address serial and fieldbus interfaces. Concrete protocol support is device- and firmware-dependent.

Can GermanSTS support networking hardware and industrial cabling together?

GermanSTS can align networking component requirements with related cabling (industrial Ethernet, fibre, control cables) within the published cable and sourcing portfolio.

Do all devices support the same industrial protocols?

No. Protocol and interface support varies by device, family and configuration.
